📡✨ Apple Downgrade

Reactions to the just-announced Apple Upgrade program seem mostly positive. It's a US-only thing, not available here in Canada. It's a surprisingly cheap program for potential subscribers, but someone has to pay for this. I don't know who, yet. A thought keeps popping up in my head: is Apple sending a contradictory message with this? From an environmental protection perspective, Apple Upgrade goes against Apple's environmental efforts: it's an incentive to consume more and faster. There is no other way to think about this. Prove me wrong.
